Day 56 Byron Bay and Lennox Head

We took a chance on the weather this morning and drove up to Byron Bay.  We drove through showers on the way there and shortly after we arrived the heavens opened.  When it rains in this part of the world, it really rains!  It absolutely bucketed down.  We were lucky enough to grab a couple of photos before the rain started and then spent the rest of the time walking around under the verandahs of the shopping centre looking at the shops and enjoying a very nice coffee (served with a bottle of water!) at a great cafe not all that far from the beach.

The rain eased off a little as we were driving out of Byron so we went up to the Lighthouse.  Given the rain we decided not to have a look at the lighthouse on this occasion.  Given that it  was going to cost $7.00 and we had already spent $8.00 for a two hour park,  we decided to leave the lighthouse until another day when the weather is better.  That might be as far away as Saturday.  Nevertheless we were able to "scope out" the lighthouse area pretty carefully.  Carefully enough to realise that the views from the top are literally breathtaking.

Needless to say, the weather brightened up as soon as we left Byron so we decided to shout ourselves some lunch at Lennox Head.  We ate at the restaurant on the first floor of the Pub overlooking the beach.  Both meals were beautifully cooked and presented and we washed them down with a bottle of a superb New Zealand Pinot Grigio.  There is no doubt about it, the Kiwis can put together a decent white.

We followed that up with a walk along the Lennox Head esplanade with a stop for a delicious, and totally unnecessary, ice cream.

OK right now I am going to try and spoil you with some little videos. This is going to be an real experiment so keep your fingers crossed.

Well, that didn't work.  I tried to down load a 6 second video and after 10 minutes the software was still trying to up load it to the Blogspot server.  At that point I pressed the cancel button.  If anyone has any advice I would be glad to receive it.  In the meantime, I am reverting to still photos.  Here are a few I took on Day 56.  To my overseas readers, this is what an Australian surf beach is all about.

Same beach looking east

The balcony restaurant at the Lennox Pub  -  a great place for lunch

So good even the local play group meets here.  True, this is a small room off the restaurant area. We
didn't even know these kids were here until we were leaving they were so good.
