The caravan bloke turned up last night and fixed up our awning and was able to do so without installing any new parts. I have always said that the problem does not exist that cannot be fixed with a three pound hammer and a roll of gaffer tape, but we didn't have to apply that kind of solution in this case.
Today has been very easy. We headed off this morning to have a look at the Bundaberg Big Barrel. This is a promotion maintained by the Bundaberg Ginger Beer people. Part of the Barrel contains an interactive display that explains the process of brewing ginger beer. It was a bit expensive to enter and we did not have a burning desire to know all about ginger beer so we didn't go into this area. The rest of the display is given over to selling the various Bundaberg drinks and tourist merchandise bearing the Bundaberg logo again at a relatively high price. You can buy your ginger beer cheaper at Aldi's up the road.
However, at the little shopping centre next door to the Big Barrel we made a most welcome discovery. We found this little cafe inside a gift shop. It was not very big but sold coffee that was simply exquisite. It had to be the best coffee we have experienced on this trip. The name of the cafe is the Bean Cafe. If you ever get to Bundaberg, call in and give it a go.
The rest of the day was given over to a bit of grocery shopping and then sitting around under the awning doing some reading, listening to music and having a snooze. The weather was sunny but a little breezy and cool. It is still shorts weather. However the forecast is not looking all that great. The interior parts of Queensland are going to get quite a good fall of rain over the next few days. This is just as well, it hasn't rained in some parts of this area since February. However, this rain band will slowly move over south eastern Queensland by the weekend. This means that it is likely that we will be packing up and travelling in the rain on Sunday. Oh well, we can't have it all our own way and if the Queensland graziers benefit, so be it.
In conclusion, a few more observations about the van park. It has a pet friendly area, however, there is no pool or childrens' play area. Its amenities blocks are adequate but they are looking a bit tired and could do with an upgrade. They have a very strict cancellation refund policy. Essentially, you don't get one. However, in some cases you can postpone your booking for 12 months, but you can only do this once.. The fee for a powered site at this time is $35 per night with one night free in every seven. Finally, it is very big and very crowded but is also very quiet and relaxing with many friendly long stay guests.
