10 July,
Not an awful lot to report for yesterday and today. Yesterday was given over a couple of domestic tasks. I had to take the car in to have the repairs to the air conditioner checked. I am happy to report that all was well. Interestingly, the bill for the repair was an eye-watering $2,500. Because the car was under warranty, the bill went to Hyundai not to me. But we are still having A/C problems in other areas. More about that later.
Bev also had her inflamed bursa injected yesterday. She felt a lot better today and it could be that the injection is already starting to have an effect. We certainly hope so.
Now for that other A/C problem. We did not have to use our caravan air conditioner until we got to Darwin. When we finally turned it on, we discovered that it stopped working after about five minutes. We were able to find a Darwin-based agent for the particular make of A/C that we have. As luck would have it, they were working in the caravan park today and were able to have a look at our problem. It turns out that the condenser fan has a broken bearing. We were able to get going manually but still will not run for more than a half hour. It would take some time to have a new fan shipped up from Adelaide and it would take some time to install. So, we will have to wait until we get home to get it repaired.
We spent most of the day looking for a box fan that we can use in the evenings to at least keep the air moving. However, we could not find one anywhere, not even in the large shopping centre at Casuarina. It seems that the big retailers don't stock these fans at this time of the year because they don't sell well during the southern winter. The fact that there is a strong demand for them up here in the top end doesn't seem to interest them. Amazing
So that is what we have been doing over the last two days. We should get back to some sight-seeing tomorrow so hopefully we will have some more photos on the next post.
