Today we bestirred ourselves enough to venture into Darwin city centre for a quick look around.
I have to say, that Darwin is a very easy place to get around. The Stuart Highway, outside our caravan park, took us right into the city centre where we had no trouble finding a car park (first two hours free). After a restorative coffee, we headed off to the local visitor centre which was not that far away. Actually, nothing in the city centre is very far from anything else.
We are now equipped with armfuls of brochures that spruik all of the tourist attractions that Darwin has to offer. We then found our way to the Botanic Gardens for some lunch which we enjoyed sitting at a picnic table under the shade of some very large trees. Extremely pleasant.
We enjoyed a short walk around the gardens before we began to notice the heat. It is about this time of day that the idea of an air conditioned shopping mall begins to appeal. This time we selected Casuarina Square as our destination and made a few essential purchases.
That was about it for today.
Tomorrow, we will have a rest from sightseeing until late in the afternoon when we will visit the sunset markets at Mindil Beach. If we feel up to it, on Monday we will do an orientation tour of Darwin using the hop-off, hop-on bus. But we are not making any promises. Now for some more photos, including some of the pool area of the caravan park.
