A long day on the road today. 380 kms but slow going what with rain, road works and plenty of traffic. We left Ellis Beach at 8.40 and didn't pull into the Big 4 Walkabout Palms until after 3.00.
This is a very good caravan park. Plenty of well-proportioned and well-spaced powered sites either on slabs or grass. the amenities are very good. There is a pool and a jumping pillow and a well-equipped play ground for the children. There is a service station at the front door as well as a cafe and convenience store. However, it appears not to be pet friendly.
We travelled through the same country as on the way up to Mission beach. Lots of sugar cane and banana farms interspersed with rugged mountains and rain forest. At one point we travelled around the foot of Queensland's highest mountain, Bartle Frere. Here is another research task. What is the name of Queensland's second highest mountain?
I am feeling a bit tired tonight so I think I will stop now. We will go into Townsville CBD tomorrow and play at being tourists. Hopefully. I will have some new photographs to show you.
Mount Bellenden!
